Pharma

Dravya or Oushada – medicine – is one among the “chatushpadas” or the four quarters or necessities each having four attributes each for successful treatment, the others being the Vaidya – physician, Paricharaka – nurse and rogi – therapist. The collection, preparation and preservation of good quality medicines have been elaborated in two branches of Ayurveda, namely Dravyagunavijnana and Baishajya Kalpanavijnana, which go hand in hand. Ayurvedic Pharma industry is a booming business with a lot of stakeholders. The quality of these medicines is directly related to the healing of a patient. Hence, we at Ayurvedic Health Care Centre are committed to providing the vaidyas / doctors with good quality medicines which assist them in bringing relief to the ailing.

Shri Pharma

Our family is known for patronising Ayurvedic medicines. Kottamchukkadi tailam, Asanaeladi tailam, etc, were prepared for domestic use of Shri. Parasurama Iyer- grandfather – thatha – Regularly at home. He had patronised Ayurveda from vaidyas at Vadakara, Thalassery etc. As he had worked as railway station master in the Mangalore – Madras sector. One uncle Shri. Shaddhanaatha Iyer, in the family also was a practitioner who practised Chintamani Siddha Vaidya who prepared Dhanwantaram gulika and other medicines for his use. The medicine manufacturing unit of Ayurvedic Health Care Centre had its humble beginning in 1994 when medicines were prepared on a firewood stove in the domestic kitchen by Dr Sreevaths’ mother Smt K Dhanam. Since then, we have grown gradually and steadily without losing sight of our intent to not compromise on the quality of our medicines.

Collection Unit

The collection of raw drugs is usually done based on necessity and seasonal availability. We collect each drug when they are available in plenty and when the active principles in them are most potent. This enables us to enhance the quality of our medicines. The collected drugs are dried when needed, is processed as per the requirements. We still use the traditional methods of hand chopping and crushing, which are almost extinct in the industry. The processed raw goods are stored in an innovative smoke chamber which utilizes the microbicidal and fungicidal property of the smoke from the firewood stoves to preserve them for a longer duration. This also maintains the humidity of the room by removing the moisture and preventing mould formation.

Products/Formulations

SHRI Pharma is regularly producing around 100 essential formulations like kashaya, taila, choorna, ghruta, lehya….

The accessory requirements for treatments like dhanyamla, various kizhis, lepas, oushadha jala, takra and other materials for dhaara etc. are prepared in the unit and transferred to the treatment centre on intend.

Cultivation

As the activities are in farm land it is a natural process here as already paddy, coconut, areca nut, plantains, bamboo, betel vines etc. are reared. The concept of medicinal plant cultivation originated in 1999 when one seedling of Vacha was brought from the hostel tank of Kottakkal Ayurveda College on completion of degree course by Dr. Sreevaths, which later spread into a source centre for seedling for other medicinal gardens. Patimukha was planted as fencing in the borders.

Some drugs are cultivated on our land and are harvested as per the requirements. They include – Rasna, Nirgundi, Eranda, Nalikera, Shashtika Shali, Punarnava, Mandukaparni, Bringaraja, Karanja, Nimba, Aragwada, Khadira, Chincha, Thartaval, Paribhadra, Thulasi etc.
